Member Story 2

We knew at 4 weeks we were expecting twins. Queensland Fertility Group (QFG) had information in their waiting room on groups to contact if you were expecting multiples. As we had no other children & knew no other parents with twins we wanted to be a part of the wider “twin community”. We joined BMBAS 3 months before the boys were born at our local EPIN (Expectant Parent Information Night).

From that night we met 2 other families who lived nearby and formed a friendship to help support us over the next 3 years or so.

What is the best thing about being a member of BMBAS?

Over the last 8 years I have met some of my best friends and some of the most giving people who are so generous in the sharing of their lives, knowledge and experiences. I have met some wonderful ladies whose friendships will remain strong for many years to come.

What I have found is a community, a community that readily offers advice and support whenever you ask.

Playgroup was my salvation. All those experienced Multiple Mums (and Dads) who would happily take a baby, offer advice on feeding, or sleeping and life in general. No one ever judged you and you could laugh or cry openly.  There was always someone who would willingly hold a baby or two for you, especially when they cried. There was always someone who had an inkling of what you were going through or how you were feeling….they’d been there before. Sometimes they could see it before you could.

Those same ladies still offer advice and support 8 years later. Those families with older multiples who have been there before us still readily take the time to help guide us down our path.

I feel privileged. I am lucky to have met these families, shared our lives with these families and call them our friends. I would have struggled so much more to survive and keep my sanity, especially in those early years, without being a part of this wonderful organisation.

I can say this, having been active on the committee for the last 7 & ½ years, you get more from out of any club if you put back into it. Giving yourself and making an effort to meet others will only improve your experience. I have been all around Australia with BMBAS and made friends and contacts within many states. All of these people are unique and have enhanced my “club” experience & my life experience.

I am truly blessed. Tania – mother to Lachlan and Cameron
